Award-winning author, historian, filmmaker and more, Mindy Johnson is a leading expert on women’s roles in animation and film history. Recently, Mindy discovered the earliest-surviving hand-drawn animation, animated & directed by a woman, over 100 years ago. With a global debut at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, she has been traveling globally to screen these rare treasures. She is. currently working on a forthcoming book and film around this landmark discovery. Author of the landmark volume – Ink & Paint – The Women of Walt Disney’s Animation, Mindy’s various books change the landscape of what we know about our animated past. A recipient of the prestigious ASIFA-Hollywood June Foray “Annie” Award, Mindy’s honors also include the Academy Film Scholar Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences/Oscars.org, as well as several ASIFA–Hollywood Animation Educators Forum Grants, for continued research and writing on the contributions of the earliest women within our collective animated and cinematic past. Mindy writes and speaks globally on early cinema, animation, women’s history, and creativity.
