Screening + Q&A

In-person Q&A with Stop Motion Filmmaker Meirav Haber and producer Javier Lovato

Thursday, June 4 from 2 – 3PM

Darren Star Theater

Thank you for joining us as the Stop Motion Animation class welcomes UCLA alum Meirav Haber with producer Javier Lovato for a special screening of their newest film. ‘Soulstice’ is a stop-motion short film about a lone birch who struggles to find happiness while rooted in depression. The film follows his journey to discover that the happiness he seeks must come from within.

A visit to the Portland Saturday Market put Meirav Haber in the path of J R Slattum’s art, where she was struck by his painting, “Soulstice.” She shared her vision of collaborating on a stop-motion film based on the painting, and after teaming up with J and Lovato, was able to put together this film.

Stop motion is a unique and powerful art form that preserves the magic of filmmaking from its earliest conception by bringing objects and artwork to life. The Soulstice team will also be presenting the puppets used for the film in this one-of-a-kind experience.
